Transport East welcomes DfT funding for 2020 and appoints consultants

We have formally secured £425,000 from the Department for Transport (DfT) to rapidly progress our ambitious and forward-thinking Transport Strategy.

This funding is for FY2020/21 and will be spent on three core areas of work:

  • Developing our Transport Strategy
  • Exploring how we can increase the number of people walking and cycling
  • Investigating new approaches to delivering public transport in rural areas and towns

We want to make sure our Transport Strategy understands and responds to the aspirations and challenges of the region. So, using the DfT funding, we have recently appointed two firms to support us in this work.

Jacobs will be leading a comprehensive piece of technical transport planning work. Their team includes regional knowledge and contemporary insights from across Jacobs and Cambridge Econometrics. Working closely with us, they will establish a clear evidence base for the strategy. This will review in detail some of our priority areas of supporting a diverse and innovative economy, global connections through ports and airports, and energising coastal and rural communities. Finally, they will identify transport options to deliver our objectives.

Copper Consultancy, infrastructure communications and engagement specialists, will be supporting us to make sure the transport strategy truly represents the needs and ambitions of communities across the East of England. This will be done through a programme of wide-ranging engagement.
